Some people like to use false names and write malicious comments on news articles/blogs but little do they know that it’s very easy to locate them. This practice is done regularly on UKZAMBIANS and other similar websites. Unfortunately, last week a Zambian in the UK who lives in South East London, near Gatwick, with Virgin Media Cable broadband connection took the stupidity to a new level by posting on Wikipedia that President Sata has been assassinated.
“Michael Sata was assassinated in the early hours of the 22nd of January. He was killed through a single shot to the chest, which proved to be fatal,” read the falsified Wikipedia alteration which has since been deleted.
Wikipedia – a free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit- allowed the publication of over the wire of an edited biography of President Sata claiming that the Zambian head of state had been killed.
“The entry was done in the United Kingdom town of Crawley by unknown persons using the IP Address 82.11.64.177 through the domain name virginmedia.com with Virgin Media Limited as Internet Service Providers.
“The falsified alteration was sent through a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) or Digital Subscriber Loop – a family of technologies that provide internet access by transmitting digital data over the wires of a local telephone network.
“The coordinates for the altered post appeared to be 51°6’48″N -0°10’58″W while the weather station code for the alter was UKXX0816, signifying that it was done in the England region of the UK”, captured by WiredProject316.
The falsified death claim was available and accessed worldwide in the early hours of Sunday last week. President Michael Sata dismisses claims he was assassinated. George Chellah, Sata’s spokesman, said State House was saddened by the malicious, sadistic and unfounded story that claimed that President Sata was dead.
Defence Minister Geoffrey Mwamba and his counterpart for the Interior, Kennedy Sakeni, said the publication of such claims was a treasonous action. Mr. Sakeni said spreading such rumours bordered on treason as those behind the scheme where doing so with the aim of creating despondency in the country.
The minister said in an interview in Lusaka that investigations had commenced and that investigative wings would leave “no stone unturned to ensure that the culprits were brought to book.
Unfortunately, if you are a Zambian, living in South East, has Virgin Media Broadband connection and known to hate president Sata you maybe a suspect.
