UNKNOWN people yesterday morning attacked and murdered 41-year-old Mazhandu Bus Services Ndola station manager Matthews Mwanza.

Mwanza was found lying in a pool of blood outside Methodist Church between 05:00 and 05:30 hours by one of Mazhandu Bus conductors only identified as Sean.

In an interview, Mazhandu Bus Services assistant station manager Joseph Mwanza said it was shocking how the incident happened because it was just within a few minutes.

Mwanza said Matthews was going for work from the company house situated at 3, Mapanza Road when he was murdered.

“Matthews was going to dispatch the 06:00 hours bus and on his way he was attacked. It’s like the people who attacked him had an idea that he had some money on him because the K3.9 million that he was supposed to bring before dispatching the bus had been taken away,” he said.

Mwanza said Matthews is survived by a wife and five children in Lusaka.
He said Matthews sustained six deep cuts and that a knife was found stuck in his head.

“It’s like he really struggled with them because we even found his trousers torn and a knife stuck in his head. He was lying in a pool of blood. It was a very, a very terrible scene,” he said.

Mwanza suspected that Matthew’s attackers should have been driving because if they were not, Sean, the conductor who was following him behind would have found them attacking him.

He said it was sad that Matthews had died on duty.

“When Sean called us, the whole Mazhandu crew rushed to the scene where we found a lot of people just watching the man. We informed the police and three officers from Ndola Central Police came to the scene. The body has been taken to Ndola Central Hospital,” he said.

Mwanza said the body would be taken to Lusaka for burial./post
