‘Lubinda is mischievous over Universal Printing Group’ ECZ

msissac 279x300 Lubinda is mischievous over Universal Printing Group ECZThe Electoral Commission of Zambia says former Kabwata Patriotic Front Member of parliament Given Lubinda is being mischievous and intends to disrupt the electoral process over corruption allegations against Universal Printing Group.

Universal Printing Group is the company contracted by the commission to print ballot papers for the September 20 polls.

Commission Director, Priscilla Isaac says Mr Lubinda’s ranting over the matter is meant to malign and undermine the Electoral Commission of Zambia.

She says this is because the letter which was tabled before the Commission Chairperson over corruption allegations against Universal Printing Group should have been taken to law enforcement agencies such as the Anti-corruption commission.

Ms Isaac says this in a letter to Mr Lubinda obtained by ZNBC News in Lusaka on Friday.

She has wondered why Mr Lubinda has failed to take his alleged evidence against the ECZ on corruption in doing business with the printing company to the Drug Enforcement Commission or the Anti Corruption Commission.

Ms Isaac says the commission has nothing to hide and therefore concludes that Mr Lubinda’s allegations are mischievous and intended to disrupt the electoral process, and threatens the peace Zambia has enjoyed since independence.

She says from the manner Mr Lubinda delivered his letter to the commission, it is clear that he wants to play to the gallery.

When delivering the letter to ECZ, Mr Lubinda was accompanied by several people including a photographer who without permission took photographers in the Chairperson’s office.

Ms Isaac says Mr Lubinda’s actions are against the electoral Act which states that the commission shall not be subject to any control or direction of any other person or authority.

In his letter to the Commission Chairperson, Mr Lubinda alleges that Universal Printing Group has been engaged in serious acts of corruption and money laundering at the Electoral commission of Zambia.

But Ms Isaac says State Security Agencies conducted investigations on Universal printing Group before the company was awarded the contract./Ends/znbc
